 Roland "Greg" DavisHead Coach/CEOEmail
Greg was born in Fairfield, Ca. in 1970
while his dad (Ro) was stationed there in the Air Force. After
living in California, Nevada, Tennessee and then again in
California, he graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1988. He
attended De Anza Community College, Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV), and
the University of California at Davis where he majored in Exercise
Physiology and minored in Sports Psychology. Greg is a
certified Level 4 USA-Swimming coach by ASCA (American Swimming
Coaches Association).
Greg was a high school All American swimmer in the individual
medley and butterfly, and also achieved AA honors while swimming at
De Anza College and UC Davis. Greg was a Junior National finalist
(top eight) as well as senior national qualifier. He was a Top
three finalist at the NCAA Championships and finished his career at
Davis with seventeen All American selections and a school record.
Greg finished his competitive career participating, as a finalist,
in national lifeguard competitions as a member of the National
Lifeguard Association.
Greg’s employment history, while certainly centered around
swim coaching, includes three years experience with the elite
Lifeguard Service for the City of San Diego. Greg was medically
retired from this service due to a knee injury suffered on the job
while in the course of making a double rescue. Greg has also been a
pool manager, lifeguard, and Red Cross Water Safety, CPR and First
Responder Instructor for several municipal recreation departments.
He has been certified in Pool and Spa Operations and Oxygen
Administration. Greg has also been a fitness instructor at
YMCA’s and other fitness clubs.
Greg’s coaching career began as an assistant at De Anza
Cupertino Aquatics (DACA). It includes Head Coaching positions at
University of San Diego High School, where his team won a San
Diego/CIF Championship in 1996 as well as three consecutive league
titles. He also coached the Coronado High School Swim teams to
their best ever finishes in 1998. Greg has also been Assistant Head
Coach at Palo Alto High School, a perennial power in the Central
Coast Section of the CIF. This program annually places numerous
athletes on the HS All American lists.
Greg’s USA Swimming experience includes assistant coaching
positions at Coronado Navy Swim Association, De Anza-Cupertino, San
Jose Aquatics. and Palo Alto Swim Club. While at Palo Alto Swim
Club, Greg was the coach of record for a female Olympic Trials
qualifier and top ranked high school All-American. He served as the
Head Coach for Coronado Navy from 1996-99. His accomplishments
include elite national level competitors (Senior and Junior
National Qualifiers), numerous high school All Americans, as well
as two swimmers being placed on the Mexico National team.
Greg also served as the Assistant Coach for San Jose State
Women’s team under Pablo Morales, former World Record Holder
and Olympic Gold Medalist This Division I position included
detailed assignments with swim training, recruiting, weight
training, mental preparation and stretching.
Prior to moving to Mobile, Greg was a founding coach for Swim Kauai
Aquatics (SKA) in Hawaii. Greg served as the head coach, senior
coach, advanced age group coach, and master’s coach while
helping to bring the club from two swimmers to seventy-three in
just over two years.
Swim Kauai Aquatics has produced numerous Hawaii State qualifiers
and finalists and top three medalists. He also coached Island
School in Hawaii State High School competition, producing several
top eight finishers.

 Tyler KernsHead Age Group CoachEmail
Coach Tyler Kerns is in
his fourth season coaching at CMSA and serves as the club’s
Head Age Group Coach. He will be leading all coaches for age
group swimmers.Tyler is an American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA)
Level 2 and United States Swimming certified coach. This
summer, he was selected as an Assistant Coach on the Southeastern
Swimming Zones All-Star Staff. In his brief time at CMSA, the Age
Group program has seen wonderful success, including: an LSC Age
Group Championship, an LSC (Southeastern Swimming) record swim,
numerous individual and relay championship swims, 8 Top 16
Times, and over 35 CMSA team
records.
Tyler has also served as a coach in the local summer league for
over 10 years. Tyler has been the Head Swim Coach for the last
eight years (2003-2010) at Spring Hill Swim Club in the Mobile
County Aquatic League (MCAL). He also served as the
club’s Aquatics Director for
three years (2006-2008). During that time he has
grown the team from 80 swimmmers to over 250 swimmers, and has
led Spring Hill Swim Club to five
consecutive league titles. Before 2006, another
team held the title for nine consecutive years. In
July 2008, Tyler was selected as the MCAL Coach of the Year for the
fourth time and third year in a row (2006-2008). In his
eight year tenure his teams have accomplished: five consecutive
league titles (2006-2010), two sportsmanship awards (2003,
2005), two spirit awards (2003, 2005), twelve MCAL swimmers of the
year, thirty-two individual and eight relay records.
In his swimming career,
Tyler swam sprint freestyle events. As a Senior, he placed 4th
in the 50 yard freestyle and anchored the State Champion 200
Freestyle Relay at the Alabama High School State Meet for St.
Paul’s Episcopal School.
In addition to Tyler’s coaching success, he finished a
formidable college baseball career at Spring Hill College and the
University of South Alabama. Tyler started in nearly every
game as a freshman for Spring Hill before transfering to
USA. He pitched for the Jags during his three varsity letter
seasons, and was a team captain during his junior and
senior seasons. During the 2007 season, Tyler beat #10
Nationally Ranked Wichita State University in his last college
performance.
Tyler graduated from the University of South Alabama, with
honors, receiving his degree in Business Administration with an
empahsis in Management, December 2007. Tyler married
Amanda (Berry) in October 2008 and the couple is expecting their
first child in November. Tyler enjoys all sports and has a special
appreciation for the level of skill it takes to be a successful
swimmer. He welcomes the opportunity as Head Age Group Coach for
CMSA and looks forward to continued success from the entire
program.
 Brian DukeAssistant CoachEmail
A former CMSA swimmer, Brian joined the
coaching staff in August 2009. His past coaching experience
includes working the past eleven summers as a coach for summer
league teams in Mobile. Brian is a certified USA-Swimming
coach and a member of the
American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA). Brian
attended Spring Hill College where he was a member of the Spring
Hill College swim team. During his time at Spring Hill, the
men’s swim team recorded three consecutive third place
finishes at the National Association Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA) National Championships. Brian gained NAIA All-American
honors and Academic All-American honors. Recently, he
completed a master’s degree in History at Auburn
University. While coaching at CMSA Brian is working toward
earning a teacher’s certificate. He works primarily with
Age Group One and the Junior Group.
 Geoffrey HartAssistant CoachEmail  Phoenix FiskAssistant CoachEmail  Anne Marie SimsMasters CoachEmail Anne Marie Sims is a lifelong resident of
Mobile. She has been a swimmer on CMSA, parent and a coach. She is the first CMSA swimmer to attend the Olympic Trials, in 1980. She is the 1978 YMCA National Champion in the 50 free and the 1978 Junior Olympic Champion in the 100 Free. She attended the
University of
Alabama on scholarship and became a 5-time college All-American. She has two children, Caitlin 19, a student at the University of Montevallo, and Zachary 15, who swims for CMSA. Anne Marie is the Head Masters Coach and also coaches the Senior 1 program for CMSA.
