Hi Again
CMSA Families,
Teams from around the
US
have brought
over 1,000 swimmers to
Columbus
,
Ohio
for the 2009
Speedo Junior National Championships. Five of those swimmers
are from right here in
Mobile
,
AL
and
continued to represent the City of
Mobile Swim
Association
with more
great swimming on Day 2 of the meet. This
morning’s preliminary session got the day started off
with some real excitement.
The City of Mobile Swim
Association continued
to get
great swims in relays, as the Men's 200 Medley Relay
(Nicholas
Colletti,
Spencer
Kerns,
Will Glass, and
TJ
Leon) was
the top qualifier in a time of 1:32.36 narrowly in front of
the
Bolles
School (FL).
The morning sessions individual swims continued to be really
great for
CMSA
as the
team qualified finalist in several events, including:
Men's 100 Butterfly - Leon (2nd - 48.70); Men's 100
Breaststroke -
Kerns
(
20th
- 57.87),
and Men's 100 Backstroke -
Colletti
(
13th
- 50.51)
& Leon (
26th
-
50.88).
CMSA's only female
swimmer,
McGill-Toolen
Senior
and
LSU
bound Parker
Glass, competed in three events: Women's 100 Butterfly (57.83),
Women's 200 Freestyle (1:53.11), and Women's 100 Backstroke
(58.77), but just missed qualifying in her swims. Glass did however
set a lifetime best time in the 100 Freestyle, during Time Trials,
with a 53.46 mark.
In finals, the Men's 200 Medley Relay swam their way to a
fantastic
2nd
Place
/ Silver
Medal finish in a time of 1:31.78, beating their preliminary
time by .58 seconds.
McGill-Toolen
Senior
Nicholas
Colletti
led of the
relay with a great Backstroke time of 23.37; St. Paul's Senior
Spencer
Kerns
followed
with a wonderful Breaststroke time of 26.09; the
relays third swimmer Will Glass, a Freshman at
McGill-Toolen
and the
Nation's fastest 14-year old 100 Butterfly, swam the butterfly leg
in a blazing 22.66; the final leg belonged to
UMS-Wright
Senior and
Auburn bound swimmer,
TJ
Leon who
completed the 50 Freestyle in a 19.66 (this was the fifth time
that Leon has gone under 20 seconds in the 50 Freestyle in two days
of swimming). The 1st place relay from the
Bolles
School
Sharks set a new Junior National Meet Record with a time of
1:30.42.
Individually,
Leon
finished
3rd in the Men’s 100 Butterfly (48.67) and
25th in the Men’s 100 Backstroke (51.00) during
finals.
Kerns
moved up in
his event to finish 19th in the 100 Breaststroke (59.09)
at finals, and
Colletti
finished
17th in the Men’s 100 Backstroke final (50.98).
The CMSA Men's team in currently 4th and is the Top Team
from Southeastern Swimming.
